a gem in Memphis

We walked over to Mud Island, having no idea what would be there, and came across this amazing riverwalk park with a meandering scale model of the entire Mississippi drainage system! It was a perfect place for a sunny afternoon and a couple of science geeks to enjoy for several hours.

It was assembled as lots and lots of concrete slabs making a puzzle, a puzzle of 3D contour lines each representing 5' depth composing a 2000' long model scaled at 30"/mile. Extremely cool.
