One of the most precious of the Costa Rican microclimates is the cloud forest for many ecological and environmental reasons. I won't go into that at all, but I must say that driving up through them on the way to Volcan Irazu was super super cool. They have this surreal mystical quality to them, as if it's where elves from Lord of the Rings should be living.
